Samuel Tupou

Born in New Zealand in 1976 to a Tongan father, Samuel Tupou’s signature is his vivid colour, pop sensibility, industrial materials and street art techniques combined with patterns of traditional Tongan Tapa designs. Using silkscreen printing onto layers of Perspex and PVC, Tupou’s works are multi-layered both in appearance and cultural context.

His work is found in in the collections of the National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; Cairns Regional Gallery, Cairns; and Centre of Contemporary Art, Cairns. This work was commissioned by the Print Council of Australia as part of their 2014 Annual Print Commission.
