Major Events: Expressions of Interest

Yarra Council is introducing a new approach to supporting and managing events in the City.

As one of the smallest municipalities in Victoria, the City of Yarra’s public spaces are in high demand. Council’s Event Permits team manages more than 600 events annually including large scale street based events such as the Johnston St Fiesta and the Victoria St Lunar Festival, small local celebrations on residential streets and park based events like fun runs, concerts and circuses.

To assist Council manage the demand for these spaces, Council has established a Major Events Expression of Interest (EOI) process.

The Opportunity

The EOI process is particularly focused on capturing the following types of events/markets:

  • Major events or festivals
  • Events requiring closures of major roads
  • Long stay or recurring events (markets and circuses)
  • Events attracting over 1,000 participants
  • Events incorporating road closures of Yarra Boulevard

Other types of events are also welcomed. Applicants will be required to submit a preliminary proposal that includes a description of the proposed activity and site, frequency and relevant experience of the applicant. The preliminary proposals will be assessed by a panel and the applicants that best meet Council’s criteria will be issued an in-principle agreement. Council will then invite successful applicants to submit a detailed proposal for consideration.

For further information on the EOI process please read the EOI Guidelines.
