The City of Yarra is the home of diverse and vibrant arts, cultures and communities. Yarra City Arts’ vision is for our city to be a creative place where dynamic, diverse, vibrant arts activities thrive and our citizens enjoy arts and culture as an everyday experience.
The City of Yarra’s Arts and Cultural Strategy sets out a strategic framework that guides Council action to sustain the municipality’s cultural vibrancy.
Yarra has a high percentage of residents who are creative artists, musicians and performers. It is our aim to make arts and culture in Yarra easier to practice and easier to participate in.
Council also has a Public Art Policy 2015-2020 and Guidelines for Public Art in Private Development in Yarra.
Council seeks formal advice on its arts and cultural policies, strategies and initiatives through the Yarra Arts Advisory Committee (YAARTS) and its subcommittees, the Visual Arts Panel (VAP) and Room to Create Panel. The Committees are comprised of community members from Yarra based arts and cultural organisations, artists and creative industries.
Council funds arts and cultural activities through our Annual Grants Program, our Small Grants Program and other initiatives such as Creative Yarra Triennial Grants and the new Room to Create Responsive Grants which were launched on Friday 24 February.
Room to Create
Yarra City Arts is supporting the activities of our artists through Room to Create, a new program that is working to ensure that our creative communities have places to practice and develop their art within the city.
