Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from Producers, Directors, Musicians, Programmers and/or Companies in Performance Development Residencies at the Richmond Theatrette in 2017.
Performance Development Residencies will be offered to two applicants who will receive a stipend and access to the Richmond Theatrette so that they can develop new work in theatre, dance, music, or other art forms or formats (for example: community and cultural programs, talks, or series of showings or presentations).
Richmond Theatrette will be available for booking from January to December 2017 to a maximum of 30 days. Bookings can be made for single or multiple days, weeks or blocks of times . Up to 14 days (2 weeks) of bookings can be made once applicants have been selected. An additional 16 days of bookings based on venue availability will be offered throughout the year. Selected applicants will be advised on a regular basis of times when the Theatrette is not booked by another hirer.
Cash support of $3000 will also be provided.
Applicants will be expected to present a showing of their work/s in development and/or participate in a forum or presentation of ideas, working methods and themes. This will take place at a time to be agreed upon with each applicant and the City of Yarra will produce and provide additional support towards this presentation. This will include: technical production, promotions and curation alongside other festivals, events, activities and themes that are relevant to Yarra’s community and/or taking place locally or more broadly.
Individual artists, companies or other groups may submit one proposal only as part of the Expression of Interest process. Proposals will be assessed on the following criteria:
- Works of high quality
- Innovative and/or emerging forms/practice
- Works presented in a professional manner
- Works in progress or at an early stage of their development
- Works that have connections to our community and/or to issues that are current and pertinent to Yarra
The City of Yarra embraces diversity in all its forms and we encourage proposals that reflect the rich fabric of our local culture and that address issues related to all kinds of access and inclusion.

The EOI is now open and will close at 4pm Monday 14 November 2016. Successful applicants will be notified in December this year.
